The equipment that is necessary for these type of studies can be obtained from numerous companies that specialize in rhythms research (Table 12.1). Also, information on the current state of affairs in rhythms research can be found by searching the internet (Table 12.2). When determining the type of equipment that will be used in an experiment, two major considerations are involved, the actual rhythms to be measured and the mathematical treatment of the data. The rhythms to be measured are at the discretion of the investigator, although choosing a rhythm that could have impact on seizure severity would have advantages (e.g., the sleep/wake rhythm could provide more correlative information on seizure rhythmicity than the heart rate rhythm).
