antibacterial activity Vancomycin is primarily active against gram-positive bacteria. S. aureus and S. epidermidis, including strains resistant to methicillin, usually are inhibited. S. pyogenes, S. pneumoniae, and viridans streptococci are highly susceptible to vancomycin. Bacillus spp., including B. anthracis, are highly sensitive. Essentially all species of gram-negative bacilli and mycobacteria are resistant to vancomycin.
