Any treatment plan for LBP should include the use of nonpharma-cologic interventions. This does not mean that these techniques should replace the use of medication, but simply that these options should be considered as additional means of helping to relieve pain. The research in this area is very fragmented, and there are few if any high-level research studies to support many of these practices. This simply means that there is insufficient research available at this time to demonstrate efficacy for many of these techniques. The following text includes the recommendations of the LBP guideline related to nonpharmacologic therapies.
