Specificity

The specificity ("negativity in health") of a test is the probability that a test will produce a true negative result when used on a nondiseased population (as determined by a reference test or gold standard assessment, such as clinical outcome). For the purpose of biomarkers, this would translate to the probability or the frequency with which a particular qualitative marker, or a certain value of a quantitative marker, is not observed in the reference group of non-affected individuals. After inserting the test results into a table set up like
