Enzymes Performing Amino Acid Conjugates

Unlike the mechanisms of other enzyme systems, amino acid conjugation involves multiple enzymes. Carboxylic acids are activated by conjugation to acetyl-CoA via acetyl-CoA synthetase (EC 6.2.1.1) present in mitochondria. This is followed by enzymatic conjugation with amino acids such as glycine, glutamate, and taurine.
