Intravaginal inserts are administered with applicators that are available in either a single-handed (Fig. 10) or a double-handed design. Each commercially available intravaginal insert has a specifically designed applicator associated with it, which is used to administer that particular intravaginal insert. Obviously single-handed applicators are more convenient and quicker to use compared with two-handed applicators. Each is designed to allow a folded intravaginal insert to be located into the applicator and has some mechanism to push out the loaded insert after the applicator has been lubricated and inserted into the vagina of the animal.
