1999, National Cancer Institute, were 65 years of age or older. The most common prevalent cancer sites are the breast, prostate, and colon/rectum. Figure 1.6 shows the distribution of cancer diagnoses for cancer survivors in 1999. The three common sites mentioned above account for slightly more than 50% of the cancers among survivors. One notes that although lung cancer is the second most common type of cancer among men and women, only 4% of the current survivors have this type of cancer.
