Interestingly, agonist occupation of the 5-HT2C receptor activated PTX-sensitive Gai/o proteins in addition to PTX-insensitive G subtypes to control DNA synthesis and proliferation in

NIH-3 T3 cells (Westphal and Sanders-Bush 1996). On the other hand, the recombinant 5-HT2C receptor expressed in CCL36 hamster fibroblasts did not readily induce a transformed phenotype (Kahan et al. 1992); this suggests that 5-HT2C receptor effects on DNA synthesis and proliferation may be cell specific.
