Goals

The goals of treatment in physical therapy are ultimately to restore normal function and to prevent disease progression. Goals from the patient's perspective are to

• minimize functional limitation due to pain,

• reduce self-perceived pain frequency, intensity, duration, disability, and depression,

• increase self-perceived functional status, quality of life, and health status, and

• return to work, recreational, and home activities.
