The treatment of a patient with pain requires a thorough subjective and objective evaluation consisting of patient interview, clinical tests, and diagnostic studies. We have presented how both physiatrists and physical therapists utilize the information obtained to develop a treatment plan resulting in functional restoration of the patients with pain. On many occasions, especially when treating chronic pain patients, an optimal outcome will be very unlikely unless a variety of resources including psychological, interventional, pharmacologic, behavioral, physical agents, and movement-based treatments are implemented under the umbrella of a multidisciplinary approach.
