There are some problems with improper use of these agents. Antiseptics and disinfectants may become contaminated by resistant microorganisms (e.g., spores), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, or Serratia marcescens and may actually transmit infection. Most topical antiseptics interfere with wound healing to some degree, so they should be used according to the proper directions and for a limited length of time.
