Technetium (99mTc) Oxidronate
Technetium (99mTc) Pentetate. Technetium (99mTc) pentetate (99mTc DTPA) is a complex between DTPA and technetium-99m. The precise structure of Tc-99m pente-tate is unknown; evidence suggests the central metal atom may be at a +4 oxidation state.5,12 The clinical indications for this agent are renal imaging, renal functional studies (perfusion and GFR), and brain imaging. An additional clinical use of 99mTc DTPA is as an aerosol for pulmonary studies.
The complex is formed when sodium pertechnetate (99mTc) is added to a shielded vial containing DTPA (or a pentasodium or a calcium trisodium salt thereof) with or without an antioxidant and a stannous salt. Recommended incubations times vary from a few minutes up to 15 minutes in length, and the shelf life is between 6 and 12 hours depending on the absence or presence of an antioxidant, respectively.
