Vitamin B7 is now referred to as biotin. Biotin was first isolated in 1936191 and identified structurally in 1942.192 Although this vitamin is known to perform essential metabolic functions in the human, the biotin content of foods, and thus the necessary dietary intake, has not been well established. Good dietary sources of biotin include liver (beef and chicken), meat (beef, pork, chicken), fish, eggs, nuts, and some fruits and vegetables.193 Enteric microorganisms synthesize biotin from pimeloyl-CoA194 in the diet and thereby become an additional source of biotin.
