Figure 1 Polyenantibiotics

Antimycotics are a therapeutic group of drugs with a broad range of local and systemic applications. Photostability is known only for some drug substances as polyenantibiotics and grise-ofiilvin. However, the knowledge is restricted to qualitative data.1'2'3'4'5

The reason for this restriction must be sought in their composition. Polyenantibiotics are not defined single substances but a mixture of various substances. That is why until now their potency is determined by microbiological methods. Investigations of photostability were therefore limited to qualitative results (Figure 1).

For the topical application various substances are used. One big substance group is the azolantimycotics. Clotrimazole and miconazole are well known representatives of this substance group (Figure 2).
