Gilsonite

largely long chain paraffins Utah, USA

suspension in methanol; 20 yg standard 6 X 104

remarks - The saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon nature of Gilsonite is reflected in the dominant ion series at m/z 42, 56, etc., apparently representing alkenes, and at m/z 43, 57, etc., thought to represent EI fragments of alkanes. The contribution of heteroatom compounds appears to be negligible as indicated by the very low peaks at m/z 17 (NH3+') and m/z 34 (H2S+-) and the absence of prominent oxygen-containing ion series.
