remarks - The spectrum is dominated by deoxyribose moiety fragments, as discussed in Part I, Section 3.3 (compare also with Spectrum C.l (RNA)). The peak at m/z 116 is often more pronounced in other DNA preparations. Note the characteristic (methyl)furan condensation products at m/z 148, 160 and 162, also described by Schulten et at. (ref. 62). At present it is not certain whether these products originate from recombination of (methyl)furan radicals or through successive eliminations of base and phosphate residues from the polymer chain.
