RIVER CLAY (Holocene)
Lienden, Marspolder, The Netherlands suspension in methanol; 50 yg standard not determined remarks - In contrast to the humus-rich brown soil (carbon content 3.5%) (Spectrum F.l), the river clay shown here is very low in organic materials (0.45% C). Moreover, the organic matter appears to be composed primarily of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. The main heteroatom constituents appear to be found in the relatively low peaks at m/z 17 (NH3+"), m/z 64 (SO;?"1" and/or S2+") and, possibly, in the ion series at m/z 68, 82, 96, 110, 124 which may represent compounds with oxygen functional groups.
